Simon Bus has been core creator at DansBrabant since 2024, Alesya has been working as PLANmaker under the wings of DansBrabant since 2024. Together, they will work on new work together in the coming period: AWOL.

AWOL
Three bodies, discomfort, humour, confusion, distortion, frustration and melancholy.
At AWOL three extraordinary dancers explore what it means to be human. Trapped in their own bodies, they play with the discomfort, confusion and limitations of that very body. Does it help them create something bigger than themselves? From the desire for freedom and meaning, the dancers ask themselves questions.

Simon Bus & Alesya Dobysh

Besides being partners in life, Simon and Alesya are also partners in art. Coming from a hip-hop dance background, they have developed their own movement language for their performances. Their work features elements from street and club dance styles, including house dance, jazz fusion and breaking, with influences from visual art and performance. This unique language made them stand out in the dance-battle scene and became the basis of their choreographic practice.

Simon is a bizarre, unusual dancer, with his own movement language, open and always looking to exchange with other creators and new working methods. In recent years, he made several performances around his love for portraits. In 2022, Simon won the Innovation Prize Dutch Dance Days Maastricht, with which he made Six Portraits in 2023, which he presented at the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht.

Alesya comes from the (Russian) street and club scene, where she developed a love for house dance - a club style with an emphasis on the combination of articulated footwork and heavy flow. She won awards at international battle events. She effortlessly pairs improvisation with thoughtful choreography. In her work, rhythm, pulsation, stillness and sound of the body predominate.
