Ray Lemmens is a dancer/maker with an investigative and physical practice, in which he starts from psychological phenomena. He is constantly searching for the relationship between inner and physical states. His work is conceptually driven, but always rooted in the body. He is guided by curiosity about what the body can reveal about mental processes and tension. His new research starts from the concept of mental grit, exploring how perseverance and mental resilience can manifest themselves physically.
Ray's artistic journey began at De!Kunsthumaniora in Antwerp, where he graduated in theatre. He later expanded his artistic and physical practice at the Fontys Academy of the Arts, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Dance Arts in Context.
He was featured in several productions and started working on projects for organisations such as fABULEUS as a teenager. Over the years, he continued to grow within the field, working with artists and companies such as United-C, Anthony van Gog, Lea Ved, Lunatics and Poets, Barnaby Booth, Danielle Huyghe and others.
His course takes place at DansBrabant and is supervised by Nienke Rooijakkers.
