Kajoinboi Residence

Over the past few weeks, Kajoinboi (Levi van der Ceelen) has been working on his research in DansBrabant’s summer studio. Kajoinboi believes that the value of art lies in that which cannot be understood without the art itself – that which cannot be explained in words, or through any other structural form whatsoever.
With the aim of moving away from the legible and rejecting any form of structure, he found himself at the heart of a paradox during this research. Without structure, there is no meaning; and without meaning, there is no art.
How does this work? As a person whose thinking is inherently based on patterns, how do you challenge those very same patterns? How do you create something that is meaningful yet independent of structure, using a mind that cannot do otherwise? How do you make art?
