Workshop day with Tú Hoàng and Dries Verstreepen

in association with Alienated

workshop day May
workshop day May

Alienated organises workshops and classes to boost the dance field in Tilburg and the surrounding area. This year, we offer monthly workshops with choreographers from the (local) field. In May, we invite Tú Hoàng and Dries Verstreepen to share their practice and knowledge with us!

Workshop by Tú Hoàng
"Framework" is a unique movement art form created by Tú Hoàng, which skillfully combines Western dance techniques with the profound philosophy of Lao Tu. This blend creates a sophisticated and resonant movement style that resonates strongly with Asian cultural sensibilities. In this workshop, participants will explore both the theory and practice of Framework, using and applying these tools to research and creativity in movement, and discover how movement can convey complex stories and profound meanings.

About Tú Hoàng
Tú Hoàng, a Vietnam-born movement artist, began his career as a ballet dancer with the National Opera and the Ballet of Vietnam. After joining the Swiss Cinevox Junior Company in 2007, he moved to Europe, where he danced with leading companies in Germany and the Netherlands. Now based in Rotterdam, Tú is the founder and artistic director of Hangtho Creatives and resident choreographer at Korzo Theatre. He combines ballet, modern dance, kung fu, tai chi and hip-hop into a unique style and has developed the Framework dance method. His choreographies reflect his Vietnamese heritage and European experiences. He has won several prestigious competitions such as the Copenhagen International, Hannover International, Masdanza...

Workshop by Dries Verstreepen
The Energy Recycling Method explores how we can use gravity to seamlessly transfer energy from one movement to the next. We explore the power of extension and visualise the energy lines our bodies create in space. We apply this method to circular movements, floor work, acrobatics and dynamic moves, bringing an explosion of power, volume and fluidity to the dance floor.

About Dries Verstreepen
Dries obtained a bachelor's degree at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and took classes with the biggest names in the dance world. He danced in productions by Isabelle Beernaert, Thierry Smits (Cie Thor), Anton Lachky and Wim Vandekeybus.
Since 2011, Dries has used his expertise as a teacher, coach and choreographer and developed his unique "Energy Recycling Method". By playing with extension, visualising energy lines and paying extra attention to gravity, Dries brings an explosion of power, volume and fluidity to the dance floor.
He even introduced this method all the way to China and taught in the dance courses of BTE Dance Center and Zoey Zeng Dance Center. Currently, Dries teaches contemporary dance at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven and Ways Training Program, a training course for professional dancers, in Brussels.
