Motus Sonus x Bimhuis x WhyNot
Alesya Dobysh
Maarten Vos | Alesya Dobysh & Max Frimout
Dance interacting with innovative electronics.
This musical evening at the renowned jazz venue BIMHUIS, Amsterdam is a collaboration between WhyNot and BIMHUIS. Together, they organise interdisciplinary evenings where we bring musicians together with choreographers,
performers or dancers.
This edition, WhyNot dancer and choreographer Alesya Dobysh presents the performance Motus Sonus together with composer Max Frimout.
The interdisciplinary and experimental project Motus Sonus explores the interplay between movement, sound and space, with each performance arising anew in interplay with the architecture and acoustics of the venue. In the process, Alesya and Max are also joined by guest artists for a series of improvised and choreographed acts from a wide range of disciplines, including performance art, sound art, street dance and club dance. They explore how sound and movement art influence each other in a live setting.
This edition, Alesya and Max collaborate with Moroccan choreographer Mehdi Dahkan, whose physically dynamic work draws from breakdance, parkour and urban. In doing so, he explores individual and collective dance from contemporary Maghreb culture. They also bring Xenia Sairento to the stage. Xenia Sairento is a Paris-based experimental dancer and known for redefining femininity within the electro dance community. Motus Sonus is produced by the Bimhuis, WhyNot and DansBrabant*.
On behalf of BIMHUIS, Maarten Vos takes to the stage with a combination of electronics and modular synthesiser. His compositions have been heard on international stages and festivals such as Le Guess Who?, MUTEK, Sonár, Rewire, Paris Philharmonie and Funkhaus Berlin. Vos regularly collaborates with other artists and musicians such as Colin Benders, Julianna Barwick, fashion designer Iris van Herpen and Joep Beving.
*From 2024 to 2026, Alesya works as a PLANmaker under the wings of
DansBrabant.
