Motus Mori INSTITUTUM
Katja Heitmann
At Motus Mori Katja Heitmann collects and preserves movements of people of all ages, bodies and
backgrounds.Since 2019, more than 2,500 people have already donated their personal movement to this
embodied archive. Based on this, the choreographer creates new artworks each time, which make you reflect on what moves us as human beings.
Sander van der Schaaf, creative producer of Motus Mori, says: “We present the exhibition in Castle De Lovie. As a visitor, you follow an experiential route through different spaces, in each of which a different layer of the movement archive becomes visible, audible or tangible. You literally move from space to space, from experience to experience, guided by music and poetry.”
“For this, of course, we also like to be inspired by the place,” Katja adds. “Motus Mori is essentially a project about people and their movements. This living archive can only continue to exist if the movements are continuously transferred from body to body. We want to be touched in Watou by the people around us, including the residents/patients of VZW De Lovie. Because in this ‘institution’ you are not a spectator but a participant.”
Motus Mori INSTITUTUM can be visited during Watou 2026, at Kasteel de Lovie, from 15 July to 30 August, every Wednesday to Sunday from 10am-6pm. More information: https://www.kunstenfestivalwatou.be/nl/
Motus Mori INSTITUTUM is a co-production with Watou and DansBrabant, and is made possible by Fonds Podiumkunsten and the Municipality of Tilburg.
