The Elephant in the Room

From 17 to 30 November 2025, Lazy Susan & Co, consisting of dance artists Alice Gioria, Hellen Boyko and Iris Boer, will be at work in the DansBrabant Studio. As part of their trajectory at Makershuis Tilburg, they are conducting research for the project The Elephant in the Room. This work-in-progress is an interactive, intimate and confrontational performance in which, through movement and images, they address a subject that is very personal to them: fear. The set, a large inflatable object, was specially designed by artist Sheray of Light. This huge air mattress acts as a metaphor for everything we tend to avoid, ignore or suppress, until it inevitably gets out of proportion....

Lazy Susan & Co. does not have one style or aesthetic, does not talk about one thing and has no fixed, defined identity. Lazy Susan & Co. is multifaceted, round, circular and constantly in motion. Its approach to dance is rooted in the belief that at its core is play, collectivity and imagination. Lazy Susan & Co. uses her body as a starting point and medium and offers a rotational, non-hierarchical approach to slow down and contemplate, to resist the fast-paced production, goal- and use-oriented mentality.
