Courtney May Roberston - Hunter
HUNTER plays with the redemption process of a classical tragedy, where a character comes to understanding through suffering. But in this tragedy, performer and choreographer Courtney May Robertson performs "life-affirming monstrosities" on herself, and her life-size doppelganger. The duo - one of flesh and blood, the other made of foam and silicone - portray the internal torments and ecstasies of an individual at odds with a society that sets purity as its moral standard.
Inspired by horror, BDSM and melodrama, Courtney paints a picture in which the grotesque, sexual perversion and excess become triumphant symbols of bodily autonomy and empowerment.
