Helena Alemany Ortiz

In February, maker/dancer Helena Alemany Ortiz worked in DansBrabant's studio from her residency at Makershuis Tilburg.

In her current research (good girl) Helena Alemany Ortiz is interested in childhood memories, play and the inner child as creative sources. She uses the dialogue between body and object with a slide on a playground to generate movement landscapes.

“I have realised how valuable it is for me to create from a place close to my inner child. It fuels my creative impulse and enables an intuitive, exploratory way of working, where contradictions and changes are welcome. This foundation makes me less likely to judge myself, more accepting of failure and softer on myself as a creator.”

Helena is a versatile dancer and sensitive maker whose practice bridges physicality, imagination and emotional depth. Rooted in classical ballet and shaped by the freedom of contemporary dance, she works with improvisation, physical theatre and artistic research to explore the body as an abstract yet communicative tool. Her work often draws on human experiences and leaves room for vulnerability, as in amparo, where insecurities, trust and protection are intertwined. Driven by curiosity, she creates spaces for connection, tenderness and embodied stories.

During her trajectory, Helena will be substantively guided by Nienke Rooijakkers as mentor. Ulrike Doszmann will additionally support her in a coaching role.
