Workshop Alesya Dobysh
House dance: from improvisation to experimentation
During the last week of August, Alesya Dobysh will work on a new creation as part of a residency at DansBrabant. In her research and choreographic work, Alesya explores the musicality of the body and the physical aspects of sound. In doing so, she develops her own approach in which she deconstructs footwork-based styles into an abstract, expressive language, reinterpreting rhythmic and percussive elements into new choreographic forms.
Alesya will collaborate with two unique dancers, both with backgrounds in house dance: Noelle Vosman and Marina Pravkina.
As part of the residency, the trio will open up the studio for a three-hour workshop, where they will share different aspects of underground club style House Dance.
The session is jointly led by Alesya, Marina and Noelle, who each bring their own focus:
Noelle Vosman, with her unique background merging House dance, acrobatics and yoga, will open the workshop and focus on level changes and the use of floorwork in House Dance.
Marina Pravkina will guide participants through UK Jazz-influenced footwork: from the basics to its further development.
Alesya Dobysh will close the workshop with an introduction to her methodology, exploring how footwork can be abstracted, deconstructed and reassembled into new compositional tools.
The workshop will conclude with an informal presentation of their residency process and an open discussion.
Dancers from different movement backgrounds are welcome to delve into the style and explore the methodology of Alesya's work.
This is a chance to experience the evolving language of a club style through improvisation, experimentation and performative composition.
