Workshop by Anne Suurendonk
Anne's academic background, combined with her love of working with beats and rhythms, creates a unique, natural fusion and an organic contemporary dance language, strongly driven by music - rhythmic and dynamic.
Her workshop starts with a comprehensive warm-up in which she guides you to experience and study the different forms and techniques that characterise her style. She uses elements such as bounce, rebound, flow, working with tension versus relaxation, endurance and improvisation. After the warm-up, the focus shifts to learning a phrase. The emphasis is both on embodying the material and experiencing it. The starting point is: dance as a means of communication.
The personality and authenticity of the dancers are essential for Anne as a choreographer and teacher. Who are you and what is your story?
About Anne Suurendonk
Anne Suurendonk (Amsterdam, 1988) is a choreographer, dancer and teacher. She studied contemporary dance at the Academy for Theatre and Dance of the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten. She soon discovered her passion for choreography and over the years developed her rhythmic, dynamic, contemporary movement language, which forms the core of her work.
As a teacher and choreographer, she works at several dance schools in the Netherlands, where she annually creates choreographies with and for students. She is also active as a freelance maker, engaging in a wide range of projects (Peergroup, DOX, Korzo) and various collaborations.
From 2020 to 2024, she was resident choreographer at Dance Theatre AYA, where she created performances for young audiences. She is currently working on the youth performance Wall/Flower for Staatstheater Kassel (DE).
In October, her performance Emo will premiere at the Dutch Dance Days. The piece, a duet performed by two women, explores what it feels like to be emotionally free - or not.
Workshop by The Dancers
During this master class, you will work with dancer Arturo Vargas (known from Hold Your Horses and A Small Anatomy) and explore De Dansers' methodology, which emphasises partnering, sensitivity and improvisation.
About The Dancers
De Dansers are known as a moving group of dancers and musicians from Utrecht, led by choreographer/dancer Josephine van Rheenen and composer/musician Guy Corneille. They believe that true connection starts in the body. Their dance concerts are encounters between contemporary dance and live music. It is raw, intuitive and captivating. They tell accessible, deeply felt stories of freedom and surrender, where playful anarchy is never far away. With rhythm, touch and genuine presence, they create art that lifts you out of the everyday.
